Good evening, everyone, and welcome back to another blog on ATL ReKap! It's been a while, but I'm thrilled to be back in action, ready to deliver the freshest updates and recaps straight to your screens each night. I hope you've all been keeping well in the meantime. Tonight promises to be a special one as we dive into my first blog covering the Braves' regular season, featuring a stellar performance by none other than Max Fried, who delivered a masterclass three-hit complete game. So without further ado, let's plunge into the excitement!
Atlanta Braves
Tonight, the Braves faced the Miami Marlins in the second game of their three-game series at Truist Park, clinching a 5-0 victory that propels them to an 16-6 start to the season.
Taking center stage, Braves' ace Max Fried dominated the mound, hurling nine straight innings, conceding only three hits, with no earned runs, while striking out six batters and issuing zero walks. This feat marks the first time a Braves pitcher has achieved a complete nine-inning game since 2022. Adding to the spectacle, veteran outfielder Adam Duvall blasted a homer in the sixth inning, contributing to the Braves' consecutive shutout victories over the Marlins.
Fried's journey this season began with a rocky start, grappling with an initial 18.00 ERA, but he steadily chipped away at it, bringing it down to 4.97 after tonight's performance. In a mere 1 hour and 54 minutes, the left-hander dismantled the Marlins, who endured their second consecutive shutout by the Braves, extending their scoreless streak to 20 innings.
Reflecting on his performance, Fried remarked, "I was just trying to get back to being who I am. Get ground balls, be on the attack."
Fried's early-season struggles included a tough outing against Philadelphia and Arizona, but he has since bounced back impressively, notably defeating the Marlins twice while significantly lowering his ERA.
Manager Brian Snitker expressed his confidence in Fried, stating, "I had a good feeling he could go nine."
Fried's dominance was so absolute that the Braves didn't even need to warm up anyone in the bullpen—a contrast to his previous outings where he heavily relied on relief pitchers.
Utilizing his slider more effectively, Fried demonstrated great control, needing only 92 pitches—69 of which were strikes—to dispatch the Marlins' lineup.
Duvall's homer in the sixth inning, coupled with some strategic plays, propelled the Braves to a comfortable victory over the Marlins.
The Braves also capitalized on Marlins' errors, scoring a pair of unearned runs in the second inning, showcasing their resilience and strategic gameplay.
Injury Updates:
Despite a scare when Riley was hit by a pitch in the seventh inning, the Braves received a positive outcome as he continued to play. Additionally, manager Brian Snitker confirmed that Ozzie Albies is expected to return from the injured list just in time for the upcoming series against the Cleveland Guardians.
Up Next:
RHP Reynaldo López, with his impressive 2-0 record and 0.50 ERA, looks to continue his stellar performance with the Braves as he takes on the Marlins on Wednesday at 7:20PM. Stay tuned after the game for a recap!
As we conclude this blog, I extend warm wishes to each of you for a fantastic evening. Let's continue to embrace positivity and share love with our families and loved ones – they truly deserve it!
