Good evening, everyone! Welcome back to another ATL ReKap blog. I hope you all had a fantastic Black Friday, enjoying time with your loved ones during the holidays.
Tonight, the Georgia Bulldogs faced off against the Winthrop Eagles, securing a victory with a final score of 78-69. This win places the Dawgs at a 3-3 record for the season. Noah Thomasson played a pivotal role in the game, scoring 24 crucial points. He went 8-13 from the field and an impressive 5-7 from beyond the arc.
Jabri Abdur-Rahim also made significant contributions, scoring 10 points by going 2-6 from the field and 2-4 from three-point range. Guard Justin Hill, coming off the bench, added 15 crucial points, making 4-8 from the field and 2-5 from beyond the arc.
Maintaining a 55-41 lead with 12:39 left, thanks to a 3-pointer by Hill, Georgia faced a challenge as Winthrop rallied, scoring 12 of the next 14 points and narrowing the gap to four points. However, at 64-60 with 4:54 on the clock, RJ Melendez's layup and Thomasson's contested 3-pointer extended Georgia's lead to nine points. Thomasson continued his hot streak, hitting another 3-pointer from the same spot, making it 72-63. A driving layup by Thomasson with 27.4 seconds left secured a 74-67 lead.
In the first half, Jabri Abdur-Rahim contributed all 10 of his points, and Thomasson and Abdur-Rahim combined for 22 of Georgia's 36 first-half points. Despite a 39% shooting accuracy, the Bulldogs closed the half on a 14-4 run, taking a seven-point lead.
Looking ahead, Georgia is set to face Florida State in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Wednesday at 9:15 PM EST. The FSU Seminoles are favored to win with a 70% to 30% advantage, averaging 14 points higher than the Dawgs and boasting a favored field goal percentage.
