Good evening, everyone, and welcome back to another ATL ReKap blog. I hope you're all enjoying this mid-November night. Let's jump right into it.
Tonight, the Hawks fell short against the New York Knicks, with the final score being 116-114. It's been a bit of a tough stretch for the Hawks, and our star player, Trae Young, needs to step up, given his recent underperformance. Unfortunately, this loss marks our second defeat against the Knicks this season, a team we usually enjoy dominating.
The starting five comprised Deandre Hunter, Jalen Johnson, Clint Capela, Dejounte Murray, and Trae Young, who was absent last night due to illness. Despite the setback, our bench made a significant contribution, with Bogi leading the Hawks in scoring with 28 points. Bogi's impressive performance included shooting 8-15 from the field, 4-11 from beyond the arc, along with 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block.
Jalen Johnson continues to showcase his skills, putting up 18 points last night, shooting 7-9 from the field, making all four of his threes, grabbing 5 rebounds, and blocking 2 shots. It's exciting to witness Jalen's growth since his draft day, and his recent performances are a testament to his development.
Trae Young contributed 15 points in the game but struggled with his shooting, going 4-12 from the field and missing all four of his free throw attempts. Trae has been inconsistent this season, but it's early days, and we hope to see him bounce back soon.
Defensively, Onyeka Okongwu had an outstanding game, securing 6 rebounds, a steal, and a block. That block, in particular, was a highlight as he denied the Knicks a scoring opportunity. The Hawks have shown strength in their ability to move the ball dynamically and involve everyone in plays. With a few adjustments, the team can regain consistency and secure more wins.
Looking ahead, the Hawks are scheduled to face the Philadelphia 76ers this Friday night at 7:30. Be sure to stay tuned for a recap after the game!
