Good evening, everyone, and welcome back to another ATL ReKap blog. I hope you all had a wonderful Wednesday evening, especially with Christmas only five days away! Wishing each of you a joyful holiday season.
Tonight, the Hawks faced the Houston Rockets, securing a 134-127 victory. Trae Young has been on fire, marking his fifth consecutive game with 30 points and 10 assists—a truly remarkable feat. He's just two games away from tying the all-time leader, Oscar Robinson, who set the record on December 18, 1964.
Young showcased his sharpshooting skills, scoring 30 points on 10-18 field goals, including 5-8 from beyond the arch. In addition to his scoring, Young contributed 4 rebounds, 14 assists, and a steal. Notably, he stared down Dillion Brooks after a contested three and a subsequent foul, turning it into a 4-point play.
Dejounte Murray also had an impressive performance, contributing 21 points, going 7-15 from the field, and hitting 3 three-pointers. Clint Capela scored 15 points, securing 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and a block. The Hawks heavily rely on Capela for rebounding.
DeAndre Hunter and Saddiq Bey played well, combining for 20 points, with 9 of them coming from three-pointers. Bogdan Bogdanovich, back from the bench, scored 22 points (8-14 from the field, 4-8 from three-point range), while Onyeka Okongwu added 19 points off the bench, showcasing an outstanding performance.
In the fourth quarter, Bogdanovich and Okongwu connected on an alley-oop, dominating the Rockets.
Okongwu's impressive block on Dillion Brooks and subsequent play to set up Trae Young's layup demonstrated the Hawks' strength.
An injury update on some Hawks players: Jalen Johnson and Kobe Bufkin have been cleared for full team practice, while Mouhamed Gueye is progressing in his recovery.
Don't forget to vote for your Hawks All-Stars to send Trae Young and Dejounte Murray to the All-Star Game on February 18, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The next game is against the Miami Heat on Friday night at 8:00 PM. The Heat are currently favored at 56% to 44%, promising an exciting matchup against Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler.
Now, let's shift our focus to the Bulldogs. In tonight's game against the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, the Georgia Bulldogs emerged victorious with a score of 94-82. Jabri Abdur-Rahim led the team with 23 points, showcasing his skills both inside and beyond the arch.
Noah Thomasson contributed 17 points, going 8-12 from the field. RJ Melendez made a significant impact off the bench, scoring 18 points and displaying a versatile performance with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and a block.
The Bulldogs are set to face the North Florida Ospreys on Friday afternoon at 3 PM, with a strong 92% favorability to win. Stay tuned for the recap after the game!
Switching gears to the Falcons, there's a quick update on the head coach role. Arthur Blank discussed Arthur Smith's future in Atlanta, emphasizing the commitment to winning the remaining three games. Blank stated that making the playoffs was not a requirement for Smith to keep his position, and the team will assess the situation at the end of the season.
Desmond Ridder has been benched for the second time this season, with Taylor Heinicke set to start for the remainder of the season, barring any injuries or setbacks. It's suggested that Ridder's time in Atlanta should come to an end, and the Falcons must focus on finding a quarterback in this year's draft.
