Good evening, everyone, and welcome back to another ATL ReKap blog. I hope you're all enjoying a wonderful evening with Christmas just around the corner!
Hawks
Tonight, the Hawks faced the Miami Heat in a thrilling back-and-forth game, ultimately falling short with a final score of 122-113.
Trae Young showcased his prowess once again, coming within one game of tying leader Oscar Robinson in his impressive 7-game streak of scoring 30 points and dishing out 10 assists. Trae delivered an outstanding performance today, scoring 30 points with 13 assists, going 10-22 from the field and 7-13 from beyond the arc. One highlight was a remarkable three-pointer from the logo in the third quarter, showcasing Trae's incredible range and confidence. In the first quarter, Trae and Dejounte Murray both contributed 17 points each and in the third, Trae made a smooth no-look pass to Dejounte, who finished with a slam.
Speaking of Dejounte Murray, he had an excellent game with a total of 24 points, going 10-20 from the field and 3-9 from three-point range. Murray also recorded 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Saddiq Bey stepped up in a larger role tonight, scoring 16 points in the absence of DeAndre Hunter. Bey went 6-14 from the field and 2-8 from beyond the arc, contributing 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. It's always a pleasure to watch Bey's defensive prowess and his offensive skills on display.
Off the bench, Bogdan Bogdanovich continued his stellar performance, scoring 23 points and making 6 three-pointers in just the first half. Bogi went 8-24 from the field and 6-18 from beyond the arc, adding 2 rebounds, 5 assists, and a steal to his impressive stats.
Looking ahead, the Hawks are gearing up to face Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow at 7:30 PM. While the Hawks are currently favored to win at 68% to 32%, it will be interesting to see what Ja Morant has in store for them, especially as this is his second game back from suspension. Stay tuned for the recap after the game!
MLB
Shifting gears to some quick updates in the MLB, there have been notable rule changes and adjustments to the game:
Runner's Lane: The Runner's Lane will now be widened to include the dirt area between the foul line and the infield grass, allowing batters a more direct path to first base while retaining protection from interference.
Pace of Game: MLB has proposed minor changes to address the increase in game time, including reducing the time between pitches from 20 seconds to 18 seconds with runners on base. Pitchers retain the ability to step off and reset the clock up to two times without penalty.
Batter Timeouts: Following player feedback, MLB withdrew a proposal that would have required the home plate umpire to immediately reset the Pitch Clock after a batter called timeout.
Pitching Changes: If a new pitcher steps onto the warning track with less than 2:00 remaining on the inning break Clock, the Clock will reset to 2:00 rather than 2:15, as was the case in 2023.
Mound Visits: Mound visits will be reduced from five per game to four, with an extra visit awarded for the ninth inning if the defensive team has zero remaining at the end of the eighth inning.
Circumvention: The timer will now restart after a dead ball (e.g., foul ball) when the pitcher has the ball and play is ready to resume, eliminating the requirement for the pitcher to be on the mound.
Pitcher Warm-Up: A pitcher warming up for an inning must face at least one batter, in addition to any requirements under the Three-Batter Minimum rule. This change aims to reduce dead time, with only 24 instances during the season where the warming-up pitcher was replaced before throwing a pitch.
These changes aim to enhance the game's pace and address various aspects for both players and fans. Stay tuned for more updates on the evolving MLB rules and enjoy the upcoming Hawks game against the Memphis Grizzlies!
