Let's dive right into the action. Last night, the Braves were on fire, scoring an incredible 27 runs in both games at Citi Field against the New York Mets. The NL East is over, wouldn't you agree, Sal? The Braves are leading the division by a solid 11 games, leaving the trailing Phillies behind. Meanwhile, the Mets are 23.5 games adrift.

Speaking of last night's games, Allan Winans took the mound for game one of the doubleheaders, marking his second outing this season and in his Major League career. He delivered an impressive performance, pitching 7 innings with no runs allowed, just 4 hits, 9 strikeouts, and merely walking two batters. With Kyle Wright's comeback still up in the air, we're all eagerly anticipating Winans' journey ahead.

But let's shift our focus to a standout addition before the trade deadline, Nicky Lopez. Making his Braves debut in game one of the doubleheader, Lopez shone with a 4-for-6 performance, contributing 5 of the 21 runs scored by the Braves. He even stepped onto the pitcher's mound in the bottom of the ninth, conceding no hits and just one walk. Lopez's debut was a sight to behold, and I'm personally excited to witness his future contributions.

Now, the question on everyone's minds: will Nicky Lopez take the starting shortstop position from Orlando Arcia, step into the DH role for Marcell Ozuna, or serve as a backup for Arcia? My preference leans towards seeing him in the starting lineup and as the DH. With Ozuna's inconsistent performance, Lopez's consistency could prove to be a game-changer.

Now, let's talk about the cleanup batter, Matt Olson. He's overtaken Shohei Ohtani in the home run race, hitting two homers in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Olson's tally now stands at an impressive 42 home runs and 105 RBIs, leading in both categories across the league. It's even speculated he might reach 60 homers by season's end.

Recapping the first game, Acuna went 2 for 3 with three runs scored, Albies went 3 for 6, notching 2 runs and 6 RBIs, including a 2-run homer. Riley also added a 2-run homer while Murphy contributed a solo shot. The Braves offense is an unstoppable force, boasting the best record in the league.

In game two, Spencer Strider commanded the mound for the Braves, pitching 7 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts, 3 hits, and 4 walks. Strider, now in his second year in the big leagues, showcased his prowess, leaving us all excited for what's to come. The Mets were left scoreless as the Braves clinched a 6-0 victory, with Albies hitting a two-run homer in the 9th inning. The series with the Mets concludes tonight at 7:10, with Yonny Chirinos as the starting pitcher.

Shifting gears briefly to the Falcons, their preseason opener ended in a 19-3 victory against the Miami Dolphins last Friday. Logan Woodside, a 28-year-old QB from the Tennessee Titans, took the reins and completed 14 of 22 passes for 146 yards. The backfield duo of Godwin Igwebuike and rookie Carlos Washington Jr. combined for 97 rushing yards, with Igwebuike scoring an 11-yard touchdown.

The preseason is all about gearing up for the regular season, which kicks off on September 10th against the Carolina Panthers. Cornerback and punt returner Dee Alford showcased his skills with a 79-yard punt return, and Breon Borders secured a 26-yard pick-six. Desmond Ridder is expected to start during the regular season, with Logan Woodside and veteran Taylor Heinicke as backups.

Finally, a quick update on the Hawks. The Atlanta Hawks are actively pursuing a trade for Raptors power forward Pascal Siakam, especially after parting ways with John Collins and Rudy Gay. As other teams reconsider their interest in Siakam, the Hawks are making their move.
